Manchester City have initial £40M bid rejected for top summer target

Manchester City will undoubtedly look to be closer to the summit of the Premier League next season, after failing to derail Chelsea’s assault on the title during 2016/17…

The Citizens finished 15 points shy of the Blues during the last campaign and for a side managed by the legend that is Pep Guardiola, that simply isn’t a good enough season.

The Spanish manager will naturally look to add the Barclays Premier League to his own plethora of titles and his summer spending spree has already kicked off with the signings of Monaco defender Bernardo Silva and Benfica goalkeeper Ederson.

Much to the delight of the City fans here in the Tavern it appears that these two won’t be the only recruits to arrive at the club this summer, although one target might prove a little bit trickier to sign.

According to The Telegraph, City will need to up-the-ante if they are to lure Benjamin Mendy to the Etihad this summer after an initial £40 million bid was rejected by Monaco.

After releasing Gael Clichy, Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna at the end of last season, City look incredibly light at the back and Mendy has been identified as a top target for the summer window.

One City fan is tucking into an early morning breakfast and he believes that Mendy would undoubtedly improve the City team, stating that the club should definitely go back with an improved offer.
