The rumours in the Football Transfer Tavern are heating up and Metro are the key to this.
The publication have claimed that Manchester City are about to make a massive bid for Barcelona’s Lionel Messi after contract talks at the Camp Nou stalled.
It was only yesterday that we claimed that Messi was now being considered a saleable asset by the Catalan giants and we now think that the Citizens will be his main suitors should a move be on the cards.
Messi is reportedly open to the prospect of a move, and the Premier League would interest him much more than a transfer to Ligue 1.
As our landlord informs us, City would be prepared to break the bank for Messi – both in terms of the transfer fee and his salary.
Messi would be earning far more than the current highest earner in the Premier League, Wayne Rooney, who is on an extortionate £300,000-a-week for Manchester United. Quite if anyone, even Messi is worth this remains to be seen.
Given the current Financial Fair Play regulations, how City would plan to fund this would certainly be interesting, and we think they would certainly have to sell before they could even entertain the idea of buying.
Do you think City are in with a realistic chance of landing Messi or are they in dreamland? Let us know your thoughts below.
