Roberto Mancini is interested in Middlesborough winger Adam Johnson according to a report in The Sun. Mancini is seeking to add more options to his left side as Robinho is short of form and he prefers to use Martin Petrov on the right of midfield.
Johnson has attracted interest from a host of other Premier League clubs in the last few months with the likes of Sunderland, Wolves and Chelsea all watching the player. He his one of the most accomplished players in the Championship and one of the most sought after players in England right now. Sunderland had agreed a deal to bring the player in for £3million but new manager Gordon Strachan blocked the deal. Man City believe that they can get a jump on their rivals by offering £5million for the 22-year-old.
Boro had hoped to keep Johnson but they are struggling to keep up with their promotion challengers and their best hope is now a play-off place. Johnson is out of contract at the end of the season and is unlikely to sign a new one so the club may look to cash in on the player now.
Johnson is likely to have options with so many clubs showing an interest but City are likely to offer the most attractive deal to the youngster. There may also be the option of him being loaned back to Boro for the rest of the season which would certainly interest the club as they feel they can still achieve a play-off place.
