It’s turning out to be a very busy Tuesday in the Football Transfer Tavern as punters look towards to tonight’s Champions League semi-final second leg and voices are raised when a report is seen on talkSPORT that declares Manchester City are set to rival Juventus for the signature of Sampdoria midfielder Pedro Obiang.
The 21-year-old Spanish starlet has been strongly rumoured to be a summer transfer target for Roberto Mancini after some very accomplished displays in Serie A as he seeks to revamp his squad for the new season in an attempt to challenge new Premier League champions Manchester United.
But talkSPORT confirm that he will have to move fast to secure the Spain Under-21 international with Italian giants Juventus ready to enter the running to sign Obiang.
He is contracted to Sampdoria until 2017 but his agent recently confirmed interest from English clubs when speaking to Sky Sports in March, saying: “I know that many teams, including English ones, are interested in the player but he is very good in Genoa and he’s happy.
“We have extended the contract for another season and now he has a four-year contract with Sampdoria.”
