Manchester City interested in signing Italian central defender, initial bid knocked back by current club

The Manchester City supporters here in the Transfer Tavern are relishing the thought of seeing Pep Guardiola inspired side at the Etihad Stadium next season, as the Spanish boss prepares to take charge in the Premier League for the very first time.

One area of the squad which the new boss is looking to strengthen is at the back and a new central defender is an immediate priority for the summer transfer window.

One of the ardent City supporters has spotted an article in The Guardian which claims that the Citizens have had a £45 million bid for Italy defender Leonardo Bonucci rejected by Juventus.

It remains to be seen whether or not the club will go back in with another bid but in securing the Italy star it would send out a firm message of intent to their Premier League rivals.

One City fan is sat preparing himself for the Portugal v Wales game which is being shown live on the Tavern’s big screen this evening. He thinks that Bonucci would be perfect for City, stating that a world class central defender such as the Italian would be a shrewd signing for the club.

Manchester City fans, would you welcome Bonucci to the club? Which other centre-back would you like the club to pursue?
