The Daily Mail have a rather disappointing story for Manchester City fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern, but one that will see Joe Hart breathe a sigh of relief.
The club have been told in no uncertain terms that the widely acknowledged best goalkeeper in the world – Manuel Neuer – will not be going anywhere, and that of course leaves Manuel Pellegrini in a bit of a pickle.
England international Hart has not lived up to the once great reputation that he was building, and now it seems that the former Shrewsbury Town stopper could well be on his way out of the Etihad Stadium after being benched for the last few games.
When asked about his future, Citizens manager Pellegrini noted that: “For him it’s a very important game, not thinking about the past but thinking about the future.
“I’m absolutely sure and I trust in him.”
As our landlord points out, opposition manager Pep Guardiola seemed to find the links between mega rich City and Neuer amusing rather than anything else, and laughed whilst quipping, ‘absolutely no chance,’ when presented with the possible move during his pre-match Champions League presser.
Quite where this will leave both Hart and indeed the Citizens is anyone’s guess, but as our punters note, the smart money is on another stopper coming in before the close of the transfer window this winter.
