Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we often receive a story that we don’t fully believe and today’s Daily Star reporting that Manchester City are preparing to break the bank to sign Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is one such occasion.
The paper suggests that the Etihad Stadium club have made a late bid to hijack Manchester United’s possible reunion for the Portuguese international although we’re unsure if the Old Trafford club had any real belief that Ronaldo would be returning this summer.
City have reportedly spoke to Ronaldo’s representatives and would be willing to pay the former Sporting Lisbon man 300,000-a-week wages in an attempt to make his switch to the blue side of Manchester.
United have been busy putting together a deal that will see the 28-year-old coming back to Old Trafford and with the forward having only two years left on his current contract at Madrid which could see him leaving the Bernabeu in a £50 million transfer.
Paris Saint-Germain are also thought to be contenders if Real Madrid decided to sell their star man but the Citizens could now be prepared to blow their rivals out of the water in a possible summer deal.
We believe this is a rumour that you should take with a pinch of salt but can you really see the former Manchester United man making the switch to City this summer? Rate this rumour below.
