The Daily Mirror has stunned us here in the Football Transfer Tavern after they reported that Manchester City could well be plotting a double swoop this winter.
The club have suffered defensively this season, and the loss of skipper Vincent Kompany has been a huge issue. Not only that, but Manuel Pellegrini has also been faced with an increasingly fragile Joe Hart.
Hart has been out of form for a while now and has lost his place in the starting line up. After being less than convinced with his replacement, Pellegrini is considering swooping for Queens Park Rangers keeper and current Brazil number one Julio Cesar.
As one of our punters quips, the chance to return to first team football and from the wilderness of the Championship before the World Cup in his homeland could well be an attractive prospect for Cesar. Quite if Joe Hart would think the same thing however is debatable.
Pellegrini also wants to bring his former central defender Sergio Ramos to England, after contract talks between the Spanish defender and club Real Madrid stalled.
City are in dire need of another strong figure at the heart of their defence, and quite rightly, Pellegrini has been shocked at the difference when Kompany has been injured. The club are looking to win the title in the most wide open Premier League for years, and to do that, they have to stop conceding sloppy goals.
Is Cesar a realistic target and Sergio Ramos not so much? Let us know your thoughts below.
