Manchester Evening News have a claim that worries most of our punters here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
This is after they note that Manchester City are looking to bring in at least one defensive player before the close of the transfer window.
The club are already one of the strongest in Europe and are not exactly short of goals, meaning that if they make moves to shore up even more at the back, the chance of actually winning trophies on four fronts is not something that we would say is out of the question.
Manuel Pellegrini has a couple of targets in mind and as our landlord notes, they are ones that a couple of other Premier League sides also have their eyes on.
Dante (pictured) is on the wishlist of both Manchester City and United, and highly rated Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala is also a target for Pellegrini and Jose Mourinho at Chelsea.
City do have world class defenders in their ranks and look an incredible prospect when skipper Vincent Kompany is fit.
As one of our regulars notes over his beer and burger, the fact of the matter is that Joleon Lescott and Martin Demichelis aren’t up to it and aren’t getting any younger meaning that landing Mangala would be seen as something of a necessity for the future.
If City do manage to lure Dante or Mangala before the deadline, most punters reckon this would spell the end of Lescott’s City career.
Are either Dante or Mangala going to be making a late move to the Etihad this month? Let us know your thoughts below.
