Many Manchester City fans have responded to the club’s latest announcement that they are linking up with FaZe Clan – an American esports organisation.
The club announced the news via Twitter, saying that they are ‘proud’ to be linking up with the well-renowned gaming clan.
According to the club’s website, the collaboration will bring new experiences for both fans of esports and football, attempting to bring the two audiences together in new ways.
The FaZe Clan began 10 years ago by a group of teenage gamers who decided to change their gamer-tags to form FaZe Clan on Call of Duty. The group has come a long way since then and is now a much larger organisation which has professional gamers, celebrity YouTubers and Twitch streamers who all produce gaming content as well as lifestyle vlogs.
FaZe Clan is the most followed gaming organisation in the world with 214 million global fans and over 500 million monthly views of its content.
To many City fans, though, this is less than exciting. Many criticised the club, with one Twitter user even saying “please don’t do this”; others were more positive, though, with one saying “we are massive”.
