Manchester City fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are disappointed to learn in AS that they failed with their £17.5 million bid for Atletico Madrid star Jose Maria Gimenez.
The 19-year-old has impressed when called upon by Diego Simeone and this has led to interest from across Europe.
The Citizens were hoping to land him in the January transfer window but sadly for them they failed in their efforts but they could come back with an improved offer.
Despite his impressive performances for Los Colchoneros, he has not been able to break the strong partnership forged between Miranda and Diego Godin meaning he could be interested in a move elsewhere.
Gimenez joined Atleti for only £750,000 from Danubio in his Uruguayan homeland in 2013 and punters thought they may have accepted the bid with the Spanish giants struggling with debts amounting £400 million.
They still find themselves deep in debt despite the teams’ success last season as well as the sales of Diego Costa and Filipe Luis so they may be tempted by an improved offer from City.
Manchester City fans. Do you hope that Manuel Pellegrini continues to chase the Uruguayan youngster or do you think he should turn his attention elsewhere? Let us know your thoughts elsewhere.
