Manchester City are just two games away from winning the Premier League title for a second successive season under Pep Guardiola.
Despite the superb form of Liverpool, City have been breathtaking with their late season form, looking unbeatable in the main and putting points on the board under maximum pressure.
A home game with Leicester City is a tough assignment to get through on Monday, but City will be confident given their home form and all round squad depth of getting past Brendan Rodgers’ men and taking things to the final day of the season.
However, a big summer could be ahead for the club, with some of their players well into their 30’s now and Pep Guardiola with something of a challenge on his hands to go out and bring in replacement players who can slot into the club’s ethos in the short and long-term.
To bring players in though, some will have to go, and with Nicolas Otamendi being one of those who reportedly could be on his way out this summer, we here at the Tavern feel this is one move which makes perfect sense.
Otamendi has found himself down the pecking order at City, with Laporte, Kompany and Stones all ahead of him, while the club continually talk of bringing in another central defender this summer as Pep looks to strengthen his ranks further.
The Argentinian has been a fine acquisition for City and has more than played his part in the success the club has had in recent times, but you can’t help thinking that his time with the club has come to an end now.
Otamendi will be fondly remembered by City fans you would imagine, it’s just a case of his time being up under the Guardiola era.
