Manchester City have spent around £90 million this summer, including the £30 million capture of Brazilian Fernandinho but they won’t be splashing out any more money on another South American compatriot according to Metro.
The publication note that Manuel Pellegrini’s Citizens are not interested in bringing Anzhi Makhachkala’s Willian to the Etihad Stadium this summer.
The player has been on the radar of several English clubs for some time now and after his current club Anzhi noted that they were rather dramatically changing their policy to get rid of all their big earners and big names, the talented player is now for sale.
After being linked with not only Manchester City but also Chelsea and Tottenham, the player is now considering his options.
As we all know, Andre Villas-Boas has been a long-term admirer of the player, even from the days when he managed Chelsea, who are still thought to be tracking the player.
Now it seems that Manchester City are not actually in the running for Willian at all, and that could have a great deal to do with the change in management at the Etihad Stadium. Now Manuel Pellegrini is in charge at the club, he has brought his own players in meaning Willian is no longer on his radar.
The Brazilian is fully aware that given a World Cup year is fast approaching, he needs to be playing top level football – and a move to the Premier League could well provide that.
Will Willian earn a move to the Premier League this summer, and with whom? Let us know your thoughts below.
