Here in the Football Transfer Tavern we have already talked at length about the possibility of Wayne Rooney leaving Manchester United but there is news in The Guardian that will actually please United fans.
The publication claim that another ‘welcome to Manchester’ poster is not in the offing and Wayne Rooney will not be subject to advances from Manchester City. The blue half of Manchester of course previously bought Carlos Tevez and shall we say rubbed it in the noses of United fans but this time no such move will happen.
Despite already having lost Mario Balotelli and with Edin Dzeko being heavily linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund in the summer the club will not turn their attention to the England international. The reason for this is not keeping peace in Manchester city centre but the astronomical wage packet Rooney commands. With a reputed salary of £300,000-a-weekm, even mega wealthy City are balking at those figures.
For Rooney the problem of course is now where exactly he could go following a snub from Sir Alex Ferguson this week. City meanwhile are turning their attention to Crystal Palace youngster and Welsh international Jonathan Williams who at the tender age of 19 has already got David Platt on a scouting mission to lure the midfielder.
Manchester City fans. Would you ever accept Rooney at the Etihad? Let us know your thoughts below.
