Oliver Barnet from the Daily Star has now arrived in the Football Transfer Tavern with news that has caused punters to down their pints and sit up to listen.
He suggests that Manchester City will make a double swoop on Real Madrid to sign French striker Karim Benzema (pictured) and Sami Khdeira in January with Sergio Aguero moving to the Bernabeu as part of the deal.
The La Liga side have prioritised signing the Argentinian striker during January and could offer both players to City, with both seemingly available to leave in the near future.
Khedira has been heavily linked with a move to England and Manchester United submitted a deadline day offer for the German international but it was too late to see a deal completed.
Khedira recently revealed his disappointment at seeing compatriot Mesut Ozil join Arsenal: “Personally, I feel bad about Mesut’s transfer. We are very, very good friends.
“His departure is a loss also from a sporting perspective. Mesut can make the difference.”
Benzema, another summer target for Arsenal, came under criticism during Real Madrid’s 3-1 win over Athletic Bilbao, with new Real boss Carlo Ancelotti attacking him for a poor attitude in the match.
The French international created two goals for Isco, yet upset Real fans and Ancelotti said: “The fans look closely at players and it’s a very clear sign that hard work is applauded.”
Could City land Khedira and Benzema in this sensational swoop or is this simply tabloid hype? Should Aguero be sacrificed? Let us know your thoughts below.
