There are excited faces here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it has been claimed by the Daily Mail that Manchester City are back in the race for Real Madrid defender Pepe.
The Portuguese international was thought to be high on the Citizens’ list of transfer targets yet Manuel Pellegrini seemed to be swayed from netting the player and it was thought the club would spend their money elsewhere.
Another point for the club was the fact that Real Madrid and new manager Carlo Ancelotti seemed dead set on keeping the controversial defender at the Bernabeu while it would cost a considerable amount for City to prise the former FC Porto man away.
Now it seems that the blue half of Manchester are back in the hunt and are willing to spend big to land him.
Pepe could well be available at the right price and City are determined to land him no matter what – even though they are wiling to offer defender Joleon Lescott a new deal – when it had been thought that the England international was on his way out of the club.
Will City add Pepe to their star studded ranks this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
