Fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking up with interest as the Metro claim that Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is not done with his summer spending yet.
The new manager has noted that whilst he feels that his squad has improved from last season – where they of course finished the campaign without a trophy and lost their title to rivals Manchester United, it still needs some work. The former Malaga manager has already signed Stevan Jovetic and Fernandinho not to mention Spanish International Alvaro Negredo and is looking to add another player from La Liga to his ranks – Pepe.
The Real Madrid defender has been on his radar for some time and is someone he knows well after managing the defender during his spell at Los Blancos. Pellegrini noted that
‘The club has spent money on important players like Negredo and Jovetic, but we’ve only replaced players,’
‘Balotelli and Tevez were here last year, they needed to be replaced. We’ve done that now, and have the whole of August to do business.
‘We are pretty close, but we are not finished yet with our spending. We’ll see what happens next.’
City of course have money to burn and do not even need to consider selling players before they can buy – something most other clubs can only dream of.
