There are conflicting reports emerging in the Football Transfer Tavern this afternoon from Italian paper La Gazzetta dello Sport and The Sun regarding Manchester City’s pursuit of AC Milan ace Stephan El Shaarawy.
According to the Italian news organisation, the former Premier League champions are planning to offer Argentine striker Carlos Tevez as part of the deal plus £20 million up front to secure the 20-year-old Italian this summer.
However, English reports could leave City fans disappointed with The Sun suggesting that the striker will stay at the San Siro for the next season. He admitted that despite being flattered with the interest from the Etihad Stadium, the striker expects to stay in Italy.
He said: “I don’t think I will leave Milan. If City really wants me, it flatters me.
“But I want to stay here at AC Milan. I always felt total confidence from all: the club, coach Massimiliano Allegri and team-mates.
“It’s also thanks to them that I am in the Italian national team.”
El Shaarawy, who netted 18 times for his side last season, only signed a contract extension with Milan until 2018 but incoming City boss Manuel Pellegrini has made him a key transfer target for his new look side.
Would El Shaarawy have made a good signing or should City target other options? Let us know your thoughts below.
