Here at the Football Transfer Tavern there is drama as it is claimed by the Daily Mirror that Barcelona could well be set to make an approach for Manchester City’s talismanic centre back and captain Vincent Kompany.
The defender has firmly established himself as one of the top players in the world and has now found himself on the radar of the Catalan giants. The runaway La Liga leaders have long been in the market for a defender to eventually succeed veteran Carles Puyol and now are set to offer Alexis Sanchez as bait in the race to land Kompany.
Of course Manchester City may well have something to say about this and given that Kompany at 26 has his best years ahead of him, not to mention he is an integral part of the Citizens’ recent successes, one would think the current English champions will not let him leave without a fight.
The lure of a club like Barcelona may well prove too much for Kompany to resist, yet given the funds and the aims of Manchester City in the next few years, that project could also keep the defender in England. As one of our punters quips, it is hardly like City need the money!
Will the lure of Sanchez be enough to help City part with their captain? Rate this rumour below.
