Manchester City set to land second summer arrival?

fernandinho.jpgManchester City fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are already looking forward to the new season after the expected arrival of Manuel Pellegrini and Sevilla winger Jesus Navas are both set to be announced.

Today The Telegraph suggest that City are close to confirming another eye catching arrival with Shakhtar Donetsk star Fernandinho set to sign for the club.

City have chased the 28-year-old all season after he caught the eye for the Ukrainian outfit during their Champions League campaign, scoring against Chelsea in the group stages, and it now appears that the Citizens have been successful in their pursuit.

He is thought to have a buy out clause of £42.5 million but City have now progressed negotiations to a stage where a compromise has been met to allow Fernandinho to join the revolution at the Etihad Stadium.

The Donbass Arena-based side have signed Wellington Nem of Fluminense, and Fernando of Gremio for a combined £18 million as they look to replace Fernandinho, as well as Liverpool target Henrikh Mkhitaryan for next season and this could see both players end up gracing the Premier League next term.

It appears that City have heeded the lessons under former manager Roberto Mancini who failed to build on their title success with big money signings that eventually cost the club the Premier League.  With director of football Txiki Begiristain leading the summer recruitment without the appointment of Pellegrini, City fans are curious to see who will be next to arrive at the Etihad Stadium.

Is Fernandinho the player City need in midfield to catch United next season? Rate this rumour below.
