Manchester City set to match release clause for 21-year-old defender

Aymeric LaporteThe Manchester City fans have been buzzing about next season since January when it was announced that Pep Guardiola would be arriving at the club in time for next season.

Not a single day goes past when the landlord doesn’t overhear a City supporter speculate over which global superstar will be on their way to the Eithad Stadium, to link-up with the ex-Barcelona manager.

Today’s edition of The Telegraph is suggesting that Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte will be one of the first signings for City this summer, after the club agreed to part with £39.6 million required to trigger the central defender’s release clause.

The heart of the back four has been a real concern for City this season, with Martin Demichelis coming in for a barrage of criticism, following his display against Manchester United last weekend.

Laporte will offer some much needed younger blood into the City back four and at just 21-years-old the Frenchman is seen as one of the bright young talent in European football.

One City fan is preparing for the Good Friday karaoke special here in the Tavern and he thinks that Laporte would be a great signing for the club, stating that both Demichelis and Eliaquim Mangala should both be sold in the summer.

City fans, would you welcome Laporte to the club? Would he be a first-team regular? What other areas should the club strengthen in the summer?
