Manchester City kicked off their summer recruitment drive weeks ago and it seems to be showing little sign of slowing down any time soon…
The Guardian are reporting that the Citizens are close to pulling off a major deal to sign flying Brazilian full-back Dani Alves from Juventus for a reasonable £5 million.
The move will see the 34-year-old link up with Pep Guardiola for a second time having previously worked together at Barcelona and Alves’ arrival is a massive statement of intent from a Manchester City point of view.
Alves arriving at the Etihad Stadium seems to suggest that the club may have given up the ghost on signing Spurs right-back Kyle Walker, with City struggling to complete a £40 million deal for the England international.
Guardiola has already delighted the City faithful here in the Tavern this summer by signing Bernardo Silva and Ederson, although this signing would certainly be the standout arrival thus far.
City finished in third place last season’s Barclays Premier League and for a manager who has won titles throughout his career that simply isn’t a good enough outcome.
The title is clearly firmly on the mind of the world renowned manager and the signing of Alves can only enhance the club’s chances of putting together a strong challenge for the crown.
One City fan is sat watching Sky Sports News here in the Tavern and he believes that Alves would be a massive signing for the club, stating that at 34-years-old he is still arguably a better signing than Kyle Walker.
