Manchester City set to win the race to sign 25-year-old Premier League defender

It looks set to be a busy summer at the Etihad Stadium this summer, with several new arrivals likely to be in place for the start of the 2017/18 campaign…

Some more exciting news looks to be emerging among the City fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern this morning courtesy of the Sunday Mirror.

The publication is reporting that the Citizens have won the race to sign highly sought-after Southampton central defender Virgil van Dijk for a whopping £60 million.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool were all said to be interested in the player who looks set to agree personal terms with Manchester City on a staggering £200,000 per-week.

City were found sadly wanting in defence during last season and some hapless defending contributed to the fact that they finished 15 points behind eventual Premier League champions Chelsea.

The powerful Dutch defender missed the second half of the 2016/17 campaign with injury but City will hope that he can form a formidable partnership with John Stones next season.

The City supporters here in the Tavern are desperate to see their team get back among silverware next season and signing a player such as Van Dijk could prove vital.

One City fan is chatting to the landlord here in the Tavern and he thinks that Van Dijk would be a quality signing for the club, stating that getting better at the back is a must if the club is to progress.

Manchester City fan, would you welcome Van Dijk to the club? Let us know in the comments below!!!
