Manchester City are hoping to fire themselves back into title contention next season following last years disappointment of seeing Chelsea romp to the Premier League crown.
With Pep Guardiola and City splashing big money this summer, the City fans here in the Tavern are actually pretty motivated going into the new campaign, with many thinking they can challenge at the top.
Obviously, key to achieving this is making sure all the new faces gel, and ‘Pep’ will no doubt be hoping he has cracked it during pre-season.
Our landlord has been keeping a close eye on international proceedings this summer, and one player he thinks can do an excellent job at the Etihad is Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Julian Brandt.
The 21-year-old German winger looks to be a superb talent, and has demonstrated his ability across all age ranges for his national team, earning 10 caps so far for the World Cup winners and he will no doubt go on to earn plenty more down the line.
Brandt appears to have all the style of a classic, old fashioned winger, with electric pace and the ability to get in behind and support the strikers by getting his name on the score-sheet on a regular basis in the Bundesliga.
City have a plethora of creative midfield players who are good with the ball at their feet, but you can never have enough attacking options when you’re challenging one numerous fronts, and Brandt could be an excellent signing.
He will no doubt go on to become a regular for Germany, and City might well be wise to swoop now before next years World Cup in Russia, where if he delivers on the world stage, he could see his value sky rocket and be a man even more in demand than he is now.
City fans, what do you think to this? Good signing? Let us know!
