Manchester City and Pep Guardiola are on the hunt for some defensive reinforcements this summer and former Barcelona star Dani Alves is the perfect signing.
City supporters in the Transfer Tavern have already waved goodbye to Gael Clichy, Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna since the end of last season which has left the club alarmingly short in the full back position.
However, Alves is just the player City need to sign to calm the nerves.
The Brazilian international played nearly 400 games for Barcelona winning La Liga six times and the Champions League three times.
His experience will be invaluable in City’s quest of winning the Premier League yet again while attempting to win the Champions League for the first time too.
He also picked up the Coppa Italia and Serie A trophies last season whilst donning the Juventus shirt.
He obviously knows what it takes to win trophies and be successful which is exactly the type of player City need.
Fans in the beer garden also feel his international experience would be a helpful addition around the club as well.
At 34 years old, punters at the bar still have some reservations over whether he’s already seen his best days and therefore unable to compete to a decent level in the Premier League.
However, our landlord recalls fellow Brazilian full-back Cafu who played until he was 38. Judging by that standard, City supporters could still have four years of Alves to enjoy yet, especially as he’s worked under Guardiola before and been successful.
