Manchester City dropped their first points of the season two weeks back as Wolves held the Champions to a draw at Molinuex, leaving Pep Guardiola's men trailing behind Liverpool, Chelsea, and Watford in the race for the title at the moment.

City still look a force to be reckoned with however, and despite the loss of Kevin De Bruyne to injury, remain many people's favourites to win the title once again and add yet another Premier League trophy to the locker.

However, we at the Tavern think the club have missed a trick this summer in not bringing in adequate cover for flying left back Benjamin Mendy, and we think that the club should be making moves in January to sign Southampton fullback Ryan Bertrand.

The Saints left back has been as consistent as they come in the last few seasons, and it would have been no surprise to see Bertrand make a move away from St Mary's due to his form and willingness to fly forward, something which is crucial to many teams in the modern game.

Bertrand might not want to play second fiddle to Mendy, but with so many games over a season and Mendy having suffered serious injury, City would be wise to try and convince the former Chelsea man to make a move to the Etihad.

City need to impress in the Champions League this season, and to do so need a big squad. Bertrand is the sort of player who compliments the squad perfectly, and would slot in nicely given the chance in Mendy's absence.

City fans, what do you think? Would Mendy be a good signing? Let us know in the comments!
