Metro seem to have some sad news for Manchester City fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
They report that Joleon Lescott has all but confirmed his departure from the club come the end of the season.
The England defender was prolific in the club’s title winning season, but has failed to recreate that form, and now looks set to be heading towards the exit door.
As one of our punters notes, not only has the player not been as good as he once was, but if City want to make that next step up to become not just champions in England, but also in Europe, they need another star defender at the back.
Whilst Vincent Kompany has been nothing short of amazing, Lescott has not quite mirrored his partner’s form or ability. The outgoing defender spoke about the amount of games he is getting and also his future, and claimed: “It is always nice to play.
“They are not coming as frequently as I would like but when I called upon I like to think I can do a job.
“Vinny is a massive player, a massive part of the club. He has got a massive future ahead of him at the club.
“It has been great playing alongside him for the past five years and it is a shame it is going to come to an end this season.”
Where do you think Lescott will head in the summer to further his career? Let us know your thoughts below.
