Manchester City fans are looking up with astonished expressions on their faces here in the Football Transfer Tavern as we fill them in on what the Daily Mirror has to say.
The publication seems to think that Yaya Toure no longer wants to leave the club – in fact he actually wants to stay for life and become a Sporting Director when he hangs up his boots – and as one of our regulars notes over a game of darts, that is certainly a bit of a U-turn from his comments earlier this season.
The midfielder is vital to the Manchester City side and anyone watching how Manuel Pellegrini’s men struggled during his absence away at the African Cup of Nations would be able to testify to that, and now it seems Toure is ready to make City the final club of his career.
His agent Dimitri Seluk noted: ‘He would like to stay for life. He would love nothing better than to finish his playing career with City and then work for the club after that.
That’s why I want City to give Yaya a new contract, to show him that they want him to be part of the future.
Now as a couple of our rather cynical regulars hear these quotes, the first thing they remark is that this is simply another tactic in the long battle to get even better terms on an already impressive contract for the Ivorian and given threatening to leave did not work, now a ‘Yaya is for life, not just one contract’ approach is being used.
Manchester City fans. What are the chances that Yaya actually means this? Will he stay for life? Let us know your thoughts below.
