Manchester City supporters here in the Football Transfer Tavern may have to brace themselves for a summer bid for one of their star players, according The Sunday People
The paper reports that David Silva is being lined up by Barcelona to replace midfield maestro Xavi, who is reaching the twilight of his career at the Camp Nou.
Representatives at the La Liga champions are already planning a future without the legendary 34-year-old, and have now reportedly eyed a move for Xavi’s international team-mate Silva.
Understandably Manuel Pellergrini views the 28-year-old as a key member of his team that currently top the Premier League and the club will do everything possible to ensure that the former Valencia man remains at the Etihad Stadium.
However any interest from the Camp Nou is likely to turn Silva’s head, possibly making it difficult for City to stop the £50 million valued midfielder leaving.
Xavi, who has now made over 700 appearances for Barca, has been linked with big-money moves to USA or China in recent weeks with Barca reportedly questioning his effectiveness to their side.
Here in the tavern we always thought that Xavi would finish his distinguished career with the Catalan club, but that may not be the case with City suffering as a consequence.
Do you think that City will be able to keep hold of Silva in the summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
