Despite their stunning win at the Allianz Arena, Manchester City fans are looking rather downcast at the latest news coming out of the Daily Express.
The publication claim that their skipper Vincent Kompany could well be the subject of serious interest this January.
Mega wealthy Monaco are apparently keen on the Belgian defender, who has suffered from some well publicised injury issues this season.
As one of our punters quip, City with Kompany at the heart of their defence are a very different prospect to the side they are without him, and simply cannot afford to sell the player.
To add insult to injury, Monaco are ready to test the waters with a bid of £17 million – not exactly the figure City fans had in mind!
As our landlord notes, Ligue 1 side Monaco have plenty of money at their disposal, and in the summer managed to attract players we would not have thought possible.
The likes of Radamel Falcao, Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez all joined the club, who are now confident of securing Champions League football for next season.
Kompany may have missed large parts of City’s season thus far, but that has been due to the injury issues suffered by the 27-year-old, not a lack of faith in him from manager Manuel Pellegrini, who sees the Belgium international as a vital part of his plans.
Surely City would be mad to even entertain a bid of £17 million for their star captain? Let us know your thoughts below.
