Manchester City star wants Etihad stay…only if he plays

Milner.jpgManchester City fans are feeling on edge in the Football Transfer Tavern as their English midfielder warns the club that he may leave next summer if they don’t play him enough.

The Mirror have revealed that James Milner does not only have his own future in the balance but also City’s squad registration issues, as he is one of very few English players in the team.

This means he has all the power in his hands. If he does choose to leave then it means that Manuel Pellegrini will have to dip into next summer’s transfer window desperately looking to sign another English player, especially following the departures of Gareth Barry, Joleon Lescott and Jack Rodwell.

This means that City have to be careful and despite this being a potential headache for the Citizens, Milner insists he’s in no rush to sign a new deal.

He has 12 months left on his contract, meaning he could potentially leave on a free transfer which would leave City in another predicament as they have to comprehend Financial Fair Play regulations as well.

Milner said: “I have a year left and have spoken to the club,” he said. “I love it here and would love to stay at Manchester City, but first and foremost I am a footballer and want to play football. Hopefully I can play enough games and will be here for the long term.

“You want to win trophies and I’ve been fortunate enough to do that. I want to do that and ideally play in enough games.

“It’s an amazing club to be at – I’ve won trophies, the club has great fans and I’m playing with some of the best players in the world. If you get that game time as well, it’s perfect.

“When you’re getting the game time, it’s amazing, but when you are not playing, it is frustrating because you want to contribute. We’ve had talks, but I want to see how it goes. Hopefully I will play enough games and can be at City for the long-term.”
