We all knew Louis van Gaal was ambitious but the majority of punters in the Football Transfer Tavern never thought he would make a swoop for Yaya Toure – but according to the Daily Star, that is exactly what he did.
The new Manchester United boss was hopeful of landing the wantaway Manchester City star and given his actions and indeed comments this summer, that move would not be as unthinkable as once thought.
However, in a blow for United, their £40 million swoop is dead in the water which has certainly placed a smile on the faces of Citizens here in the tavern – but once they hear the next part, that smile vanishes.
The reason for the snub is not to stay at the current Premier League champions, but to force through a move to Paris Saint-Germain instead, who the Ivorian has been flirting with for some time now.
van Gaal now has to look elsewhere but as one of our punters notes, he has plenty of time yet and we do not want to see any panic buys this summer for the Red Devils.
