There some are surprised looks around the Football Transfer Tavern this evening.
Manchester Evening News claim that Manchester City are interested in signing Barcelona’s Lionel Messi with the Citizens willing to pay an amazing £250 million to land the world’s best player.
The paper reports that Spanish newspapers have linked City with a move for the Argentine genius who is yet to sign his proposed contract deal at the Camp Nou.
With the 26-year-old enjoying a mixed season at the Catalan club, it is thought that he could be looking for a change with life at the Camp Nou becoming difficult with the club unlikely to win a trophy this season.
Injuries have curtailed his fine form but he would still be an incredible addition to the Manchester City squad for next season as Manuel Pellegrini seeks to put together a team capable of winning the Premier League and the Champions League.
It’s certainly a rumour that we will take with a pinch of salt here in the tavern, and as much as we’d like to see Messi one day grace the Premier League it still seems very unliekly.
Can you really see Messi heading to Manchester in the near future or is this rumour better off as tomorrow’s fish and chip paper? Let us know your thoughts below.
