One of the biggest names in world football has today been on the agenda in the Football Transfer Tavern after our landlord told punters that Edinson Cavani’s agent revealed that he is likely to quit Napoli in the summer.
Our landlord took a perch on a bar stool to read out The Sun article that states Roberto Mancini is a long-term admirer of the 25-year-old Uruguay international who could be available for £51 million due to a buy out clause.
Cavani had signed a new contract with the Serie A outfit at the start of the current season but the new clause means that a move could still happen with the forward interesting teams across Europe.
His agent Mino Riolo is reported as saying: “For now Cavani will stay but I wouldn’t be so sure about that once June arrives.
“I’m sure there are clubs ready to pay that. But only five clubs in the world can afford to do that — Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain.
“You are intelligent enough on your own to understand where Cavani will play his football next season.”
Mancini is desperate to reinforce his attacking options during the summer and will be looking to offload a few of his underperformers to ensure Cavani’s signature.
