Manchester City target record-breaking swoop for German star

SaneManchester City fans around the Transfer Tavern have expressed their excitement to our landlord, following astonishing reports from the continent.

Reports from German newspaper Bild reported that the Blues are preparing a huge €55 million (£40.5 million) offer for Schalke star Leroy Sane.

The attacking midfielder is currently plying his trade for German outfit Schalke, although he has recently been on City’s transfer radar with four goals and four assists in the Bundesliga this season.

Manchester City fans will know all about spending big on young Bundesliga talent after last summer’s capture of Kevin De Bruyne for £54 million, with the club reportedly looking to return to Germany once more for another hot prospect.

Should the reports of an imminent £40.5 million move for the Germany Under-21 international be true, he would become the most expensive player in German history ahead of Mesut Ozil, who cost €50 million back in 2013.

Pellegrini is reportedly prepared to consider a transfer to replace the injured Samir Nasri in his squad, with rumours resurfacing about another attempt to sign Real Madrid’s Isco, although City’s Chilean boss did play down the chances of any significant business in the January window in his latest press conference, stating:

“The squad is complete. We’re not closing the window but are not thinking of any special player.”

Meanwhile, Schalke general manager Horst Heldt was insistent last week, claiming that ‘even Man City haven’t got that much money’ to sign Mane.

However, with the Premier League title contenders developing an ability to collect some of Europe’s finest young potential, and with the likelihood of being managed by Pep Guardiola next season, Sane’s head may be turned.
