To say Chelsea fans are in a good mood here in the Football Transfer Tavern after the latest claim from the Daily Mirror is an understatement.
The publication seem to be under the impression that French defender Eliaquim Mangala is set on a move to West London – and not Manchester.
Of course, both Manchester City and Manchester United have been linked with the defender – who is one of the hottest properties around and certainly looks set to leave Porto this summer – yet it is a move to London that has the player interested.
He was asked about his future and spoke to beIn Sports, noting: “It’s true that I love the Premier League because it is a spectacular championship.
“But there are big clubs in Spain and Germany as well as England. In January, there were discussions with City but nothing came of it because the two clubs did not strike a deal.
“It was a bit complicated to leave then. My goal now is the World Cup. We’ll see what happens after.”
He made it clear where he wanted to live and for some reason he is not keen on rainy Manchester! Mangala added: “I told my agent, Jorge Mendes, I don’t want to know anything before the end of the World Cup. Every player wants to move in larger clubs.
“I am an ambitious player and the team I would choose one that will allow me to win titles. I want to improve. The choice between Chelsea and Manchester City? I would say Chelsea because it is in London.”
Will Chelsea get this deal over the line in the summer or will it be long-term admirers City who can seal the move? Let us know your thoughts below.
