Manchester United may well have pulled off a massive result last night in Madrid but here at the Football Transfer Tavern we are turning our attention to Manchester City due to the claim in the Daily Mail.
We have been talking about the striker situation for Roberto Mancini’s team for a fair while now and in sensational news, the club are willing to break the bank – which for them is saying something – in order to land Edinson Cavani.
The forward was only this week linked to a move to the Spanish capital but City are confident they can pip Jose Mourinho’s men to the post and land the coveted Uruguayan.
Cavani has a well known buy out clause of £52 million and would also require substantial wages – all of which City are willing to pay. The club are desperate to make their mark in Europe after two really disappointing seasons in the Champions League and see players like Cavani as key to achieving this aim.
The club are also looking at Arsenal target and Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama as a potential acquisition in the summer and are set to make good on their promise of a real clear out at the club after being accused of standing still last summer.
