Our resident Manchester City fans who are enjoying a pint at the bar won’t have too much to shout about during deadline day but they will be interested to hear that winger Patrick Roberts remains set to leave the club on loan.
With Kevin De Bruyne picking up a serious knee injury last week, Manuel Pellegrini mentioned young winger Brandon Barker as a potential alternative, whilst suggesting that Roberts’ proposed loan move to Celtic will still go ahead.
“Patrick will go on loan to Celtic – the arrangements were made before this [De Bruyne injury] and we don’t want to cut the option to play more games at Celtic. It will be a very important option for him. I am sure that Patrick Roberts will be a very important player here in the future also.”
“So to play more games for him at Celtic will be better than to stay here and play just some. We have another young player also who can do it, Brandon Barker. He is a very good player also. So we’ll see how many weeks Kevin will be out before he comes back to our squad.”
Scottish champions Celtic have been negotiating a loan deal with City for the England Under-19 winger that would last until the end of the season and he’s been pictured this morning arriving at the Scottish side.
He moved to the Etihad from Fulham last summer for around £12 million. However, our landlord believes that a loan move would seriously benefit Roberts, who has managed just 3 appearances for the first team this term.
