Manchester City fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking slightly confused at the news that Edin Dzeko has become Napoli’s most wanted player this summer – well according to Caught Offside that is.
The forward may frequently find himself the fourth choice for Roberto Mancini or more accurately third now Mario Balotelli has returned to Italy, yet has still managed to score 12 goals in the 14 starts he has been handed this season making him the top scorer at the club. The player himself feels significantly undervalued by manager Roberto Mancini and would be willing to look to a move to another top European club in order to gain first team football.
It had been though that a return to Germany could well be on the cards yet with Napoli facing the prospect of losing Edinson Cavani this summer after already seeing Ezequiel Lavezzi depart for Paris Saint-Germain last season, the club are determined to get back up options in place halting the slide down the Serie A table after fighting for a Champions League spot this term and claiming one the season before.
Given that City paid Wolfsburg a huge fee for Dzeko the Citizens will look to recoup most of the £27 million should they sell the forward – and are considering using him as bait in order to lure Cavani to the Etihad Stadium himself.
Will Dzeko finally give up on his Manchester City chances and link up with Napoli instead? Rate this rumour below.
