The Daily Mail have Manchester City fans looking up with interest here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they note that Gareth Barry may be staying at the club a little while longer.
Barry has been linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium since the arrival of new manager Manuel Pellegrini and now it seems that it may be a while before he gets his wish.
Despite the manager telling Barry he can have a chance to try and break back into the first team, the midfielder is still keen to secure a move away and City are holding fire on allowing him to join Everton on loan to see if any rival bids materialise.
Given that the World Cup takes place next summer, that comes as no shock to us here in the tavern and as one of our punters quips, given City have signed the likes of Fernandinho, Barry is well within his rights to assess his options.
Roberto Martinez and Everton are more than willing to take the player on loan, yet it seems that City are waiting to see if any other offers materialise. The Merseyside club are keen to take the player this season but have not yet made an offer to land Barry on a permanent basis – something City would prefer, understandable given Barry is in the final year of his contract with the club.
Everton are not only trying to bring in new faces as the transfer window draws to a close but are also keeping hold of their two star assets – Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellani who are being courted by former manager David Moyes and Manchester United.
Will Barry remain at Manchester City beyond September 2nd? Let us know your thoughts below.
