The Daily Star have punters here in the Football Transfer Tavern looking up with huge interest as they claim that Manchester City and Manchester United are set to battle it out for a £50 million pair.
As our punters move over from the pool table, all they want to know is who the club are after, and our landlord who is always in the know informs them that the clubs are set to do battle for Southampton’s Luke Shaw and also Everton’s Ross Barkley.
The pair are perhaps the two best young stars in the Premier League at the minute who are not playing for genuine ‘top four’ clubs, and it seems all of that could be set to change in the summer.
Chelsea are also keen on the pair, and as we all know, money is not an object for the Blues.
Manchester United will certainly not be rivalling City for trophies this season, so as one of our punters quips, at least they can keep the rivalry in some way!
The pair will cost around £50 million – and will want Champions League football, meaning we think United are already on a loser!
Are Shaw and Barkley worth a combined £50 million or is this a ridiculous asking price in modern football? Let us know your thoughts below.
