Manchester City supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern are used to big money arrivals.
However, sources at Manchester Evening News reckon there could be a big name departure at the Etihad Stadium before the close of the transfer window.
The Premier League champions are considering an offer from Valencia for Spanish forward Alvaro Negredo, which would see the striker returning to La Liga on a season-long loan with the option of a £24 million signing.
Manuel Pellegrini is mulling over the deal which would see him left with three strikers until January at least, with Negredo behind the likes of Edin Dzeko, Sergio Aguero and Stevan Jovetic in the pecking order.
City are confident in the knowledge that Yaya Toure and David Silva are able to play further forward if required, but the move would go against Pellegrini’s idea of having two top players for each position.
City could be tempted to sell Negredo – who has not scored a goal since January after a superb start to his City career – with Financial Fair Play rules in effect.
Even of the striker were to stay, he faces being left out of City’s Champions League squad due to the rules regarding the number of ‘homegrown’ players.
The striker – nicknamed ‘the Beast’ – is out of action for a month with a foot injury.
