There is serious drama here in the Football Transfer Tavern as Manchester City have been told by Metro that they have one per cent chance of netting Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo this summer.
The Citizens were in the race for the Spanish international and given how well Manuel Pellegrini knows the Sevilla man, it seemed a deal could be in the offing.
City have moved ever closer to snaring Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic and are bringing last season’s top scorer Edin Dzeko back into the fold after it was rumoured a move could well be on the cards.
Now Mario Balotelli and Carlos Tevez have departed the Etihad Stadium, strikers are needed and Pellegrini is determined to have the necessary firepower up top next season.
Sevilla may need the money yet are playing hardball over the future of the player and are keen on getting as much money as they can for the forward.
Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido noted: “We are far from reaching a deal with City.
“Right now they are further away than where we were at [in negotiations] with Atletico Madrid. There have been advances but we are still far from a deal.
“Sevilla have valued the player at a certain amount and that will vary depending on if it’s a fixed sum or with variables. Either they pay what we ask, or the player stays with Sevilla for another three years.
“The chance that he goes right now is one per cent. In the last 15 days I have lowered the price by €0, I’m very generous.
“The substitute for Negredo is Negredo. For me the best thing is that he renews his deal for another two years and raises his [release] clause.”
Will Manchester City now lose out on Negredo and simply have to be content with just Jovetic? Let us know your thoughts below.
