The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern are concerned about their lack of options at left back following the news that Benjamin Mendy is set for a lengthy injury lay-off.
Manchester City brought in Benjamin Mendy during the summer transfer window but he has been ruled out for more than six months with a serious knee injury.
This has prompted Manchester City to look for another left back in the January transfer window, having let Aleksandar Kolarov and Gael Clichy leave this summer.
Their search has led them to Southampton left back Ryan Bertrand, according to The Sun.
Bertrand was on Manchester City’s radar during the summer but they opted for Mendy instead.
Now they look likely to revisit a deal for the England international, who has impressed at Southampton since making a permanent switch from Chelsea.
The 28-year-old has played over 100 times for the Saints and has made seventeen appearances for the England national side as he competes with Aaron Cresswell and Danny Rose for a starting spot in the squad.
A move to Manchester City could be appealing to Bertrand, who would almost be guaranteed games until Mendy’s return.
As a result of the injury crisis, Pep Guardiola has been deploying Fabian Delph at left back.
