Manchester City unlikely to replace Negredo with Ligue 1 star

Most punters in the Football Transfer Tavern thought Radamel Falcao had completed his dream move to Real Madrid yesterday.

In reality, nothing has been confirmed from the Champions League winners as yet.

That may well have left the door open for Manchester City who have also been linked with a move for the Colombian striker, however the Daily Mirror says a deadline day move for Falcao is unlikely.

City are looking to offload Spanish striker Alvaro Negredo before the close of the transfer window with the former Sevilla man looking likely to be omitted from Manuel Pellegrini’s Champions League squad.

Reports suggested Pellegrini was considering a move for Falcao were City able to offload Negredo, despite the fact Monaco are demanding a £20 million loan fee for the 29-year-old.

But Pellegrini is reluctant to bring in a fifth forward, with Edin Dzeko, Sergio Aguero and Stevan Jovetic also on the club’s books.

Falcao is desperate to leave Monaco despite having signed only 12 months ago and yesterday tweeted that a ‘dream’ move to Real Madrid had been completed – only to delete the message a short while later.
