The latest transfer speculation in the bar involves one of the teams firmly in the race as The Express reports that Manchester City want to sign Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote in the summer.
The 27-year-old Ivorian has stood out during his four-year spell at St. James’ Park and now Manuel Pellegrini is reportedly keen to land the former FC Twente man.
Tiote has previously been linked with moves to both Arsenal and Manchester United but it now appears that City want to land the holding midfielder, with both Jack Rodwell and Javi Garcia failing to fulfil requirements in the centre of the park.
Another option available to the Chilean manager is Porto’s Fernando, who came close to joining City in January, while Paris Saint-Germain’s Blaise Matuidi was thought to be on the radar before he signed an extension with the Ligue 1 champions.
It is likely that Tiote would jump at the chance to play for the former Premier League champions and the Magpies could now face a struggle to keep hold of another of their stars after seeing Yohan Cabaye leave in the recent transfer window.
