One of the stars of the season in punters from the Football Transfer Tavern’s eyes has been Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fernandinho and he is wanted by Manchester City according to the Daily Mail.
The Brazilian playmaker has a release fee in his current contract of over £42 million but Citizens boss Roberto Mancini does not want to spend more than £20 million on the player.
Mancini is adamant that he will not be held to ransom by clubs this summer and so a deal for the talented midfield man is in jeopardy.
Shakhtar Donetsk manager Mircea Lucescu has claimed that a move to the Etihad Stadium would not be a move in the right direction for his Brazilian international anyway.
“If City want to [sign Fernandinho], the clause is £42.3m,” Lucescu told Pro TV.
“If our players receive offers from teams higher than Shakhtar, we do everything possible to help them. Currently, I think Manchester City are not at our level.”
Will City get their man or has this fee put them off for good? Rate this rumour below.
