‘Beautiful thing’, ‘Stockport Iniesta’ – Man City fans on Twitter praise historic changing of the guard

The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern were celebrating their sides 17th victory on the spin last night after a 1-0 victory over Feyenoord at the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola’s side were far from their best last night in Manchester, but they emerged from a cagey affair as 1 nil winners to ensure they will qualify from Group F as group winners. Indeed, last night’s encounter lacked the glamour and intensity that has characterised plenty of Manchester City’s victories this season. As the game looked to be destined for a goalless draw Raheem Sterling played a one-two with Ilkay Gundogan on the edge of the area, before the former produced a delicate chip to beat the onrushing Brad Jones and hand City their 5th straight Champions League victory.

The Citizens faithful propping up the bar were thoroughly encouraged by their team’s ability to grind out a winning result despite not performing anywhere close to their best on the night.

However, potentially the most pleasing aspect of the whole evening for the club was the professional debuts for City’s 17-year-old Phil Foden and 18-year-old Brahim Diaz.

Guardiola handed Foden his first taste of first-team action in the 75th minute of the game and he received a rapturous round of applause when he entered the fray in place of Yaya Toure.

Foden made quite a name for himself recently after he starred in England’s U17 World Cup victory in India, a tournament in which he claimed the Golden Ball award for his performances.

And it appears the Manchester City supporters on Twitter are absolutely delighted for the local-born lad who looks destined to have an exciting future in English football.

Here’s what the fans had to say about Foden’s first appearance for the club…
