Big boost emerges for Man City ahead of Champions League clash

Manchester City supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their side go 16 points clear at the top of the Premier League courtesy of a 5-1 thrashing of Leicester City on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola’s men went into their clash with the Foxes off the back of drawing 1-1 with Burnley in their preceding league outing, a result which saw their lead at the summit cut to 13 points by neighbours Manchester United. Yet the Citizens now lead Jose Mourinho’s United by 16 points as four goals from Sergio Aguero as well as a Raheem Sterling strike sealed a comprehensive victory over Claude Puel’s side, who had equalised through Jamie Vardy only for City to run riot in the second half and secure a 23rd win of the campaign.

Consequently, there have been many delighted Citizens fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are likely to be further encouraged by a recent tweet from fitness expert Ben Dinnery, which outlines that Fabian Delph, Leroy Sane, and David Silva all trained for the club ahead of their Champions League clash with Basel on Tuesday night.

England international Delph has missed City’s last four Premier League games after coming off after 31 minutes in their defeat to Liverpool back on January 14, while winger Sane was on the receiving end of a horrendous tackle from Joe Bennett in their FA Cup success at Cardiff City back on January 28, and hasn’t featured since.

Influential ace Silva has also been missing from their last two league games due to injury, yet Dinnery on Twitter confirmed that all three had returned to first team training on Monday, ahead of their encounter with Basel in the last 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday.

And while it remains to be seen whether any feature in Switzerland on Tuesday night, this news will nonetheless come as a huge boost to both Guardiola and the club’s supporters ahead of the run in.
