According to Spanish radio station Cadena Ser, and football website Inside Futbol.com, Atletico Madrid are planning a summer swoop for Manchester City’s Sean Wright Phillips.
Atletico are known in Spain as the Mattress Makers (because their red and white shirts resemble the colours on old mattresses…apparently) and they’ve set their sights on a Top 4 finish in La Liga next season. They’re convinced that Little Sean is the man to help them achieve that goal.
The question is, would Wright-Phillips fancy a move to Spain? Perhaps the ambition of the club, and the fact that they already have Sergio Aguero and Diego Forlan on the books, would be a deciding factor. But there’s already a host of Premiership clubs who would be willing to take a punt on the 29 year old. If the sun, sangria and senoritas of Madrid don’t interest him, Transfer Tavern has lined up a number of other destinations for the winger:
Bolton – Just 20 minutes north of Manchester, but with easy access to the surrounding countryside (perfect for bombing around in your Rolls Royce Ghost) Bolton is the perfect location for a want-away winger. If you think Bolton is all about the Reebok, you’re in for a real shock! This March, the Davis Cup comes to Bolton as Great Britain’s best tennis players (except the Murray brothers) take on the cream of Tunisian tennis!
If that doesn’t tickle your fancy, then the Ironman UK Triathlon comes to Bolton in July! You might even want to take part, though with your hamstings I wouldn’t recommend it.
Newcastle – The Venice of the North, Newcastle is currently undergoing a mini-revival! There’s sandy beaches to bathe on, lonely moors to ramble on and Scotland is less than an hour away, if you fancy a quick get-away to Celtic! Fancy a quiet pint?
Well tough! Newcastle is the third-best nightlife destination in Europe, and the seventh best in the World! At just £2.20 a pint, it will only take a tenner to get you drunk Sean, and that’s when the real fun starts! Just ask ex-Newcastle United legend Andy Carroll…
Fulham – Having grown up in Greenwich, you probably know London well, but things have changed since you were last here Sean! Fulham has a distinctly Welsh feel about it, and there’s a rumour that Al Fayed is planning to plant daffodils on part of the pitch for St. David’s Day (at Mark Hughes request).
But don’t let that put you off! It’s all happening in Fulham and Hammersmith, with the Olympics coming to the area in 2010! What do you mean it’s only the cycling??
West Ham – Jellied eels, pearly kings and queens and a right old knees up, you’ll find all this and more at our final destination. If you thought Eastenders only lived on the telly, then you’re in for a shock! West Ham’s Boleyn Ground is located in the London Borough of Newham and we ‘KnowHam’ you’re going to love it!
If you want to keep fit (and you’re going to have to if you want to play for West Ham) then the Borough Council has got loads of free events to keep you active! There’s even the Newham London Run coming up on March 27th! Don’t get too comfy though, you’ll be moving to Stratford before too long! And no Sean, that’s not the home of William Shakespeare the famous English bard…but you knew that already!
So don’t pack up your troubles and move abroad Sean, there’s a world of things for you to do here in the UK! If you don’t mind a bit of rain, snow, fog etc…..
